WriterMode::Thread wakes the writer and waits for it to drain every ring ignoring the ordering grace, so a record submitted just before the call is always included. WriterMode::Manual drains on the calling thread respecting the grace instead, so a record stamped inside the window is left held for a later drain_once() to pick up; use drain_once() there to force it through.
